This time of the year is all about parties, getting together with friends and family to spread the Christmas spirit. Unfortunately our skin can suffer from so much partying! Some of us love this season, and others dread it. For me, Christmas is about having fun, treating your loved ones and re-connecting with old friends.
So, with all the partying and late nights we must make sure we are relentless with our skin care routines. Some of us go into ‘I must eat healthy and drink lots of water to fit into my dress’ and others are more ‘Meh, Christmas is about food and drink, ill start being healthy in January’ – which type are you? Personally, I’m the one who stuffs my face and worries about it later, but that aside, I try to look after my skin, but I rely on products because the food I’m eating definitely isn’t going to help my skin. It’s what skin care products are for, right?
In the past, I really neglected my skin. I did not have a routine at all. I didn’t even own a cleanser, I just used make up remover wipes and that was it! Yes, I know, what was I thinking. Now, I realise how important it is to have a skin care routine, it has made such a difference to my skin.
Pre & Post Party Skin Care Products
I start with a face mask, to clean and purify my skin. I like to do this before getting ready to go to a party because it makes my skin feel so clean and fresh. Make up applies and looks so much better when skin is squeaky clean!I use Epoch Glacial Marine Mud, which I have a full review on here. I use this twice a week.
I use these products daily or weekly, as part of my normal skin care routine. I have found if I stick to my routine and not have lazy days, I don’t need to go out and buy extra products for the party season, which I’m happy about as I’m saving money!! It’s all about finding a routine that works for you.
I then cleanse, moisturise and Tone. I use Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water (combination and sensitive skin). This is a no fuss cleanser that doesn’t need to be rinsed off, so I soak a cotton pad and apply all over my face until there is no dirt left on the pad, I use 2 pads usually. Only 1 pad if I have already done a face mask. I swear by micellar water, its hands down one of my favourite skin care products, I will always have a bottle of this without a shadow of doubt. Its kind, soft and gentle on the skin and removes dirt better than any cleanser I’ve used in the past. You get 200 uses out of a bottle which is amazing. I use this morning and night, also pre and post party! To remove make up I will use a make up wipe first and then micellar water afterwards.
I also use Neutrogena Hydro Boost cleanser after micellar water – I use this one for its hydration qualities. I also really like the milk formula. This is especially good after a night out as it make your skin feel unbelievably fresh, soft and supple. I feel like I’ve just had a facial after using it!! Also, no need to rinse this either! I use this daily, morning and night.
For Toner I am using Sonya Aloe Refreshing Toner with White Tea. I didn’t understand what toner was when I was younger, until I started watching You Tube and I learnt a bit more about what it does. Many beauticians say it’s not a necessary step, but I feel its great for oily skin as it soaks up extra residue. It’s like an extra cleanse. I would agree that’s it’s not totally necessary if you have dry skin. I also use this pre and post!
Moisturiser! This step is so important!! Just like any product, make sure it’s suited to your skin type. I use The Body Shop Vitamin E Aqua Boost Sorbet. This works really well for me, as its suitable for all skin types so I can use it all year round, as my skin does change throughout the year. It is really moisturising and refreshing on the skin, it soaks into the skin really quickly. I use this in the morning and before bed.
Exfoliate. So many of us disagree on when we should exfoliate. It really depends on how much make up we wear, skin type and our lifestyle. I only exfoliate once a week, and most definitely in the morning after a night out just to remove dead skin sells and give my skin a boost. I use BEE GOOD Honey and Camelina Facial Exfoliator. This is a really gentle exfoliator and is kind to the skin, which is what you want from an exfoliator as you don’t want one that’s harsh!
Last but not least, eye cream. I’m using Olay total effects 7 in one Eye Transforming Cream which you can read more about here in my current favourites. This does a great job of giving hydration to dry eyes and my concealer applies so well on top of this.
This is my routine, it’s very simple but it works for me. Some of you may use a more or less products but it’s about finding what works for you.
I hope you are enjoying your Christmas parties!
Does any one use the same products as me?
